In Tierra del Fuego, at the most southerly tip of South America, is located Karukinka Natural Park. It is a wild and majestic place for those with a sense of adventure who enjoy trekking. Pristine sub Antarctic forest, peat bogs, mountains, lakes and rivers amaze everyone with their beauty. This wonderful nature reserve is the home for the icon of Tierra del Fuego – Patagonian Guanaco, the dignified Andean Condor and endangered Culpeo Fox. It also one of the few place where you can enjoy the Micro World of Mosses and Lichens. Tierra del Fuego provides a great opportunity to experience spectaculars views and enjoy the silence of this beautiful wild place.
Arrival at Porvenir – Tierra del Fuego’s capital. We will pick you up from the ferry or from the Airport of Porvenir starting our expedition with a city tour of Porvenir. Next we will travel towards the south of the Island. Throughout the time of the expedition will be accompanied by one of the unique native species of Tierra del Fuego – Guanaco. After 110km we will reach Estancia Onaisin, here we will visit the British cemetery. After short time we will travel to the King Penguin Natural Reserve, here we will spend about an hour observing and admiring the beauty of these Antarctic birds the second largest penguin species. The tour will continue on to Russfin, where the famous “Draga Aurifera” is located – Golden dredge – reminiscent of the days of gold fever in the early 20th century. Along the way we will be able to observe and marvel a wide variety of indigenous birds like Bandurias and Caiquén and if we are lucky we could observe the delicate elegance of the Chilean Flamingo. After another 80km we reach Lodge located on the shore of beautiful Lago Blanco.
Following breakfast, we begin the second day with Adventure Trekking in Karukinka Natural Park, a wonderful nature reserve remains an area unspoilt by human presence. The trail is of an easy-medium difficulty level of challenge covering an overall distance of 12km (round trip) and the walk take around 6h30min. The walk follows a gentle sloping path that crosses steppes, sub Antarctic forest and other Andean’s flora and fauna. The trail will lead us up to Lookout La Lenga and to Lookout Laguna del Cura 466 m above sea level with a beautiful view and finishes at the lake. During the trek everyone will be able to enjoy the experience of seeing the local wildlife, pristine forest, lake and breathtaking landscapes.
After breakfast departure. We will say goodbye to the wonders of Karukinka Natural Park. From Lodge we travel once more towards Porvenir.
